Why do I need ambulatory blood pressure monitoring?

  • It may be that your clinician has noticed that your blood pressure is elevated during a clinical assessment.

  • You may monitor your blood pressure at home and have noticed that it is elevated or significantly varies each time you take it.

  • You have a family history of high blood pressure, stroke, heart disease or kidney disease.

  • You have started taking blood pressure medication and you or your clinician want to see if it’s reduced your blood pressure.

  • You may have self-referred for blood pressure monitoring, this could be for any of the above reasons, or you just want reassurance that your blood pressure is normal as part of your own health and well-being.

What does fitting the device involve?

You will place an arm cuff  around your arm, which fastens with velcro and is attached to a monitoring device. This sits in a small pouch that can then be hung around your neck or attached at your waistband. The readings are taken automatically so you can carry on with your normal daily activities.

You can watch this short video on fitting your device. If you are unsure of anything, please do contact us.
